Buy The Best Camper For Hunting Season!

The Call Of The Wild

Hunting season is upon us, and one of the best ways to get out in the wilderness and away from it all is to buy a good camper for the back of your pickup. But what sort of camper is best?

There are many different options out there; some are going to be better than others. It all depends on what you’re looking for; here we’ll cover a few things to help inform your choice.

Cost First: What’s your budget?

There’s no use dreaming about some top-of-the-line camper if you’ve only got a few hundred dollars on you. That said, through used sellers, you can actually find some pretty decent campers for the back of your pickup extremely cheap. So first: what’s your budget?

There are tent options which are available on Amazon for under $500. Basically, these are just tents designed for the back of a pickup truck; but some have more space than more traditional campers—though in Wyoming, they likely won’t be nearly as warm as you need.

Conversely, you could just get a truck camper for $330+, throw in a mattress in the truck bed, and call it good. This can also be done for under $500. That said, if you want a “real” camper, it’s going to be anywhere from $1k to $100k, depending on what you go with. At base, you can find a decent pre-owned truck camper for about $5k.

Camper Size

If you want a “big” camper, you might as well go with a motorhome or fifth-wheel trailer—the thing is, these may not have the off-road capability you need for hunting. Even so, you can find campers designed for the bed of a pickup truck that will comfortably house a small family over the weekend. Some of these will even include a shower, bathroom, and black/gray tanks.

The 2005 Bigfoot 2500 Series 25C10.5 E includes a bathroom, shower, stove, dinette that becomes a bed, over-the-cab bed, storage, and essentially everything that is generally in a fifth wheel or an RV, but designed for the back of a pickup. It also comes with a hefty price tag that can range from $20k to $60k; depending largely on whether the seller includes the truck in the purchase.

While there is an upper limit to camper size when it comes to those that go in the bed of a pickup, there are some surprisingly large options out there. Also, it’s worth noting that not all pickups are designed such that they’ll be compatible with all campers; so know the size of your pickup, and the size of the camper you’re looking to attach to it before you buy.

Sustainability

How sustainable is the camper you buy for your truck? Will it last through this year, or will it last for the next ten years? Are you buying a truck that comes with a camper? How well does it run?

Because if you go with a bottom-dollar option, it may work fine for one or two seasons, then malfunction so bad you just can’t use it. Size and cost may not matter if you get a camper that’s only good for one use. Conversely, that may be all you need it for.

Making The Best Choice

There are thousands of camper models designed to be installed in the bed of a pickup truck, and all will incorporate their own features. If you want to get the best option, you’ll want to do a little searching.

Size, cost, and sustainability of use are big factors in your buy, so know your thresholds and choose carefully. To learn more about this and other key information on cars, campers, and more, be sure to explore our blog at Anybody’s Autos!
